Contemporary apartment complex of 32 two and three bedroom residential units with roof gardens and terraces and underground car parking located on the site of the former North Foreland Manor.

The development has been designed to complement the surrounding area and to mitigate the potential impact on the residential amenities of neighbouring occupants and will have landscape and biodiversity enhancements.

The provision of structural and civil design services on this apartment complex, basement car parking, plant rooms, lifts, and common areas. This included economical foundation and superstructure option studies and solutions. These were based on a double height retaining structure into the natural chalk to provide the split level car park. The upper floors are to be constructed using in-situ concrete flat slabs, lift shaft, and plant rooms.

The main challenge was to provide safe and economical foundations whilst working in close proximity to the boundaries and a number of protected trees.

The detailed design was originally based on gravity retaining walls constructed in open cut. However, alternative options are also being considered including the use of contiguous piled basement walls.
