The project involved the creation of 37000m² of warehouse space surrounded by a private access road and haulage, with a significant earthworks scheme to create an acoustic bund to the perimeter of the site.

The Regional Distribution Centre is located adjacent to the M271 near Southampton. It includes the main warehouse, loading and unloading areas, cold rooms, freezer rooms and Regional Office
block.

Jubb have modelled the superstructure using Revit and have run through significant coordination with other members of the design team to provide a highly coordinated design for the client to put out to the market.  The structural solution involved piled foundations, reinforced ground slabs and a braced steel structure with long span structure to provide maximum internal space.

Jubb designed the sub and superstructure in close coordination with the clients specialist subcontractors, such a refrigeration specialists and racking designers. This ensured that their strict loading and deflection requirements were taken into account whilst providing an economical solution for this large RDC building.

Post contract, Jubb worked with the client to ensure the design and their requirements were implemented correctly by their chosen main contractor. This proved to be a challenge in working with a contractor not aligned to UK design or health and safety requirements. We assisted the client to ensure their requirements were met or exceeded and have gone on to work on 6 more similar projects with the same client with a continued excellent working relationship.
