New leisure facility featuring a 60-station fitness suite with top of the range fitness equipment, a 25m five-lane main pool, a 20m teaching pool and two studios, as well as a sauna and steam room. The centre also features a children’s splash area.

The new Leisure Facility has been some 12 years in the planning and replaces the aging existing Cascades facility which is located in the Centre of Tewkesbury. The new facility is located adjacent to the existing Council Offices with the intention of creating a Hub area that will enhance and maximise the use of the existing land.

The Centre features a 60-station fitness suite with top of the range fitness equipment, a 25m five-lane main pool, a 20m teaching pool and two studios, as well as a sauna and steam room. The centre also features a children’s splash area, designed specifically with little ones in mind to help build up confidence with water in a fun and safe environment.

The building is formed from a steel frame, with inset composite floors at first floor level and light weight roof structures. Traditional foundations are utilised with a suspended insitu concrete ground floor slab. The swimming pools and below ground basement plant rooms are designed as water retaining structures.

The layout of the building dictated the use of transfer trusses over the pools which in turn support a dance studio. A detailed vibration analysis of the whole structure was undertaken, with specific attention to this area to ensure that the relevant floors met with vibration criteria to SCI guide P354.
